Phil Bulone, PhD, LMHC, ATR-BC

Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Board Certified Registered Art Therapist

Hi, I’m Phil.

I help people find relief while moving through trauma, grief & loss, and life transitions — even when words fall short.

Sometimes you get stuck, and it sucks. You are not alone.

My approach

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing)

This is your invitation to begin.

Beginning therapy can be scary. However, I invite you to proceed with curiosity and a sense of personal adventure.

You are the expert of your experience. You don’t have to have it all figured out.

Therapy with me isn’t about fixing you — it’s about showing up as you are, open to doing the work.

When optimizing a physical fitness plan, it is common to balance both cardio and weight training for optimum outcomes. Similarly, working on one’s mental/emotional fitness plan benefits from a balance of talk and action expression therapies.

My approach integrates talk therapy with other action therapy forms such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), graphic narratives, and creative expressive techniques, recognizing that transformation often happens beyond words.

I serve as a container; a supportive guide to hold your pain with care as you safely uncover root causes, build ways to cope, and cultivate empowering long-term solutions and growth.

I invite you to unlock the benefits of therapy.

Let’s begin our adventure together.

There is hope navigating a path after suicide loss
Grief is a natural response to loss

Suicide Loss/Bereavement

A suicide loss is like no other loss. It can be greater in intensity. How you view the world, and your place in it, has been shattered. While no one will know exactly how you feel, I can relate. My partner Nicole died by suicide Christmas Eve 2019, and I found her. Its overwhelming and too big to hold by yourself. You can pick up and put some of those pieces back together. I can help you work through the unique nature of suicide loss: exploring the incessant “why’s”, processing internalized self-blame, shame, guilt, rejection, abandonment, unfinished business, and so on. The way our loved one died doesn’t have to define how they lived or our relationship with them. Our society doesn’t do well with grief & loss in general, let alone suicide loss, which can add to further feelings of isolation, and even anger. There is hope for navigating a path towards your new reality. As unimaginable as it might be now, it is possible to live with this loss, with less agony.

Grief & Loss/Life Transitions

When someone dies, we grieve. Grief is a natural and universal response to loss. Grief isn’t just about yearning, longing, and sadness. Grief is also an expression of great love. It is an experience that demands to be processed - not avoided. I offer a companioning approach to help you feel the feelings, regulate emotions, continuously bond with your loved one, and create meaning from the loss. Grief needs to be witnessed.

Grief isn’t always about a death of a loved one. It is natural to grieve other types of losses, such as a relationship ending, sudden termination of a job, relocation, retirement, or other major life changes, including transitioning into a different life stage. Complex emotions related to these experiences often show up causing further suffering. These parts need to be paid attention to, and responded to, in constructive and empowering ways.

Trauma Processing/PTSD

Trauma is a word thrown around much. Bottomline - everyone experiences deeply distressing or overwhelming events having significant impacts on their lives. Traumas range from big, single life-altering events, to less severe distressing events accumulating over time. Not dealing with trauma can ambush your mental, emotional, and physical well-being causing painful disturbances and torment. Long gone are the days of “toughing it out”. That might have been acceptable in a time when the world operated in more predictable and supportive ways. Today, we operate in greater chaos. I invite you to breakthrough stigma and shame. You can reduce or eliminate the “charge” of trauma’s impact on you and experience relief. Your brain is a mysterious and elegant organ. In the process you can create new, adaptive neuropathways and greater resilience. Some clients also experience post-traumatic growth.
